Yes, except for the Barn, which naturally stays cool

Yes, there is wireless internet.  We’ve been promised that the connection speed will be significantly stronger year.  With this, we’ve created a mesh system that provides Wifi to each cabin.  With this upgrade, we’ve added Smart TV’s in each cabin.  We can’t yet guarantee the strength of the signal, but hopefully it will be far better than before.  To assure that you can watch your shows/movies, we recommend downloading them onto your app ahead of time.

Verizon is decent, ATT is poor and the rest are nonexistent.  If you drive 1/2 mile towards Keystone, full service returns.

All of the cabins have a TV with a DVD player.  The televisions use antennas and only have a few channels.  Most have 3 or 4.  We’ve finally gotten better internet so now all of our cabins have Smart TV’s.  Hopefully, our wifi will be able to support streaming for all the cabins, but we don’t know yet.  To be safe, we recommend that you download some shows/movies on whatever app you use so that you can be guaranteed entertainment on our new TVs.

Larger chain grocery stores are in Rapid City about 20 miles from BackRoads Inn and Cabins. Hill City has a nice grocery store for a small town about 15 miles away and Keystone has convenience stores.

The cabins are fully furnished. Bedding, towels, dishes, pot and pans, soaps, paper goods, trash bags, coffee filters, coffee and the first round of smores are provided. They come fully stock with the essentials, everything except shampoo, conditioner, and spices other than salt and pepper.  There is also a gas grill at every cabin.

The weather in the Black Hills is always mild. The days are warm, evenings are cool.  You may need a sweatshirt or jacket. We have frequent, fast passing thunderstorms some afternoons.

Each cabin has its own private fire pit.  There is wood for sale at Keystone Country Store, which is only 2 miles away.

3 miles from Backroads Inn and Cabins.

There are several dining options in Keystone, which is under 2 miles away.  There are also a couple coffee shops there as well.

There is a pool centrally located amongst the cabins.  There are also large grassy areas through the grounds as well as plenty of great hiking and biking within minutes of the property.

No, but there are laundromats in Keystone, which is about 5 minutes from the cabins.

Backroads Inn & Cabins far exceed our expectation. We stayed in the Dan Patch cabin, which is located towards the back... of the property. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. There is a deck directly off the kitchen for convenience reasons. Owners were wonderful to work with from booking the reservation right down to the smooth check in process. Location is perfect too. This is truly a hidden gem!!!read more

We highly recommend!!! We stayed at the Spokane cabin for 8 nights, loved it, worth every penny. It has a full kitchen... & stocked to cook & serve food, 1 bedroom with 2 small beds for children and with a private bathroom, another bedroom with a bathroom next to it, a large living room with a TV fireplace & a pull-out bed, and a sun room with a pull-out bed - so could sleep 8 or more if needed - and with a modern gas grill and a fire pit outside on the patio. These cabins are in a great location in a beautiful valley 1.5 miles west of Keystone SD. There was no cell phone reception for us (AT&T) but the cabins have good wi-fi supplied so no problems with contact with the outside world - including using wi-fi calling & video calling. It's peaceful relaxing lodging a few hundred yards off of the paved Old Hill City Road - a perfect getaway spot in the very heart of the Black Hills! The ONLY negative for some folks would be the only 4 TV channels but there is a DVD player supplied, and we did not go there to watch TV - Bruce & Jeanne W.read more

The perfect place for our family reunion! We had five families, and rented four cabins. It was the perfect way to be... close to each other, while also allowing everyone a little space. The cousins had a fantastic time playing in the pool. The cabins are charming, clean, and comfortable. We needed the AC for most days, but the last day was cold, so we used the heat. Both worked great. The location was beautiful and just minutes away from town. We definitely recommend this place. While it was great for our large group, it would also be great for a single family, or a romantic get away with just your spouse.read more

We drove straight from Indianapolis and slid into the cabin as the sun was setting. Beautiful location, cabins are... perfect for a family or peaceful for a quiet couples retreat. Whitetail deer greeted us as we entered and merium turkeys wandered into base camp the second night. Close to everything and yet so peaceful. Thanks Evan for a great experience!read more

The cabin I stayed in was fairly new. It had two bedrooms downstairs and one upstairs. The main kitchen and living area... is upstairs and also has a walkout deck. There are two wood stoves, one upstairs and one down stairs. The cabin was very clean and well equipped with full sized appliances. It is about 2 miles from Keystoneread more

I can not say enough about this place. We had a family vacation there and rented 5 cabins. All cabins were different... and fit the need of each family. There was enough room for the young kids to run around outside and enough space for the adults to just hang outside. This place was amazing. Evan was always on site and if we needed him, he was always there. Each cabin was far enough away for their own privacy. The train going by was a plus for the kids and adults. It was nice the internet was scarce, it gave us more time to spend together and not on our phones. I would recommend Backroads Inn and Cabins for anyone who wants to get away and not be in a hotel.read more

We live... near Rocky Mountain National Park and feel like we just found our new go to place.
